About Us

Your hosts, Rochelle and Peter Young

Kingsdown Manor is proudly owned by Peter and Rochelle Young, who live on this very special property with their two children, Stevie (14) and Ben (11).

"We were both born and bred in Southland, which is famed for its hospitality. We've brought that emphasis with us to South Canterbury and offer a warm welcome to visitors and some true "southern hospitality". We hope to be able to share it with you soon."

Onsite we have Morphuis the Cat, Briar the Jack Russell and Chalky the German Wirehaired Pointer. All are very friendly and the two dogs live outside.

The Youngs come from a farming and commercial fishing background, and have extensive experience in both fields. Fishing for crayfish (lobster) in the seas off the coast of one of New Zealand's great wilderness areas, Fiordland, for most of his adult working life, Peter loves to share his knowledge and stories . He still skippers a Department of Conservation vessel, The Southern Winds, in a relieving capacity along the Fiordland coast.

Rochelle has many and varied interests, loves music and to sing. and is an avid horse enthuiast having competed in all discliplines and been a very active member of the hunting fraternity over the years.

Stevie and Ben both attend local schools and play the drums and electric guitar respectively. They are both very sporty children and look forward to sharing their knowledge of the local area and attractions with you.

Immensely passionate about farming, particularly Elk, the family continue to farm offsite their small stud, "Erroldale Elk", that they are happy to share with you by arrangement.
